In this paper, we first research some biology recognition techniques. By analyzing and comparing, we know that the fingerprint recognition technique has obvious superiority. Then we introduce the history of the fingerprint recognition technique. The reliability of the fingerprint recognition technique and the prospects of it under the embedded circumstance are discussed too. Through comparing with SCM, we know the merits of DSP in the fingerprint identification system.By comparing with other products within their categories, we learn the merits and drawbacks of the digital signal processor TMS320VC5402 and the fingerprint collect chip AF-S2. Using these two devices as the core, we then design the hardware of the embedded fingerprint identification system. Considering the need of updating, we divide the system to two parts, one is the processing module designed on DSP platform, and the other is the fingerprint collect module designed on AF-S2 platform. The processing module includes many units, such as the memory units, the communication interface, and the power manager, and so on. We set the parameters of the above parts, as well as test the hardware of these parts. We design the communication software, realize communication within the modules, and realize communication between the system and the above computer as well. The communication software provides the platform for the fingerprint algorithm. We improve part of the algorithm in the basis of summarizing the experience. So the algorithm can meet the need of the system much better. It is proved by experimental operation that the system works well, it reaches the design objective.
