With quick development of the Internet and electronic business, a sharp increase in quantities and types of available information used by enterprises has been induced and information integration has became one of the most crucial challenges facing modern business institutions. On the basis of a comprehensive research on development of enterprise information integration, this paper introduces the idea of MDA into the solution of information integration problems. Meanwhile, we propose a new method called MDI, i.e., model driven integration, which sets up integration at the level of data sources. Therefore, it realizes the unification of legacy, existing and even futrue data storage technologies, as well as providing functions like information transition and real-time access.Main jobs involved in the paper are as follows:1. To design MDI.(1) By creating PIM, we provide a uniform view for the application to access data without restrainted from data formats, data positions and differences in interface. Adhering to standards like UML, MOF, XMI and the like, we apply MetaBase, a metadata management system to actualize seamless integration of structured, semi-structured and non-structured data sources in a virtual database.(2) The information integration server provides standard interfaces for the applications. Thus, users can use SQL to make real-time access the enterprise's internal heterogeneous information sources. On the basis of integration access heterogeneous data sources, we will be able to inquire and process pellucidly multiple data sources and at the same time maintain independence and integrality of individual data sources. And then we realize the federate data management.2. To integrate MDI and Web Services. With regard to the reality that enterprises generally use WEB technology to process their business, we put the MDI within a framework of service-oriented system and realize allied visit of WEB-based business system and traditional system to heterogeneous information sources by taking advantage of Web Services technology, which really reinforces universality of MDI.3. To discuss the application of MDI in the digital campus. Through demand analysis of information integration in typical high education institutions, we pick the MDI-based method to information integration in a digital campus. Two main problems we solve are: establishment of the campus' virtual database; integration access heterogeneous data. This prototype system can flexibly define and manage the size and arrangement of management deposit of data, i.e., to realize flexibly the granularity of convergence/distribution of business data.
