FED,a new kind of FPD, has been researched and developed from 1989 in Fuzhou university. 25'QVGA FED had been completed. This dissertation introduces the research in a new-style control system, based on FPGA, embeded in the printing FED with low work function. Driver IC and FPGA were innovatively put into this system, which minimized the messiness, volume and power consumption. The size of panel was presently the largest at home. The principle and development of FED are presented at first. Then it describes both the whole configuration of FED driver and control system using FPGA. Emphasis of this dissertation is put on the investigation of FED driver. This chapter focuses on the control process in video collection, buffer storage, gray modulation and power amplifying. At the same time, the assemblage of whole system is summarized, the power consumption is calculated, and then the betterment of FPGA design is submitted. Finally, it analyzes and discusses the prototype's display. Owing to FPGA, the integrative control system of FED driver is flexible, simple and extendable. At present, the driver has fabricated 25'color FED prototype, which, the first time, has carried out color QVGA video images on domestic FED. Its brightness reached 250cd/m2, and its contrast ratio was 600:1. Moreover, the 256 level gray images were gotten.
