Carbon nanotube field emission display (CNT-FED) is a new type of flat panel display, it has drawn tremendous interest from flat display field. In this thesis, according to the structural and electrical properties of different devices, driving circuits were designed for two CNT-FED prototype devices: the digital tube device and the 16×16 matrix device. The dynamic display was implemented, which provided important foundation on the practical application of the CNT-FED.The display principle for digital display tube with CNT cathode was studied, and driving circuits including logical circuit and high voltage driving circuit were designed to achieve dynamic digital display.Based on the structure of the 16×16 matrix addressable CNT-FED, the matrix display principle was analyzed. The driving circuits for the matrix CNT-FED were composed of two parts: the logical circuit and the high voltage driving circuit. The logical circuit with the control core 51 microcomputer was designed to provide logical control signals for the high voltage driving part, and the latter mainly including the high voltage MOS provided high voltage for driving anode and cathode of the matrix CNT-FED. The driving software was compiled by 51 assembly language. After software debug and hardware emulation, the circuit board was fabricated, and the dynamic display of characters was obtained. However, the designed driving circuit still remained many problems, such as the limitation of the logical circuit and the large power of the high voltage circuit.
