The thesis conducted an elementary study on carbon-nanotube -planer-display technique. The emission characteristics, especially the electric field enhancement factor, of carbon nanotube arrays have been analyzed theoretically. It was found that the electric field enhancement factor came to its maximum when the interval between two adjacent nanotubes in the evenly distributed array was about 4 to 5 times the radius of nanotube and the smaller the radius of the nanotube, the larger the field enhancement factor. Meanwhile thin films of carbon nanotube arrays have been fabricated by means of both CVD and paste methods, which were later employed as field emission cathodes. Points or continues areas were observed to emitter intense blue light when negative high voltage were applied on these thin carbon nanotube films in the vacuum. Those films were found performing best which contain a proper percentage of carbon nanotube in relation with epoxy-gelatin, which correspondences well theoretical calculation.
