Remote monitoring and controlling technique for UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) is development trend and research hotspot. To solve the problem of monitoring and controlling for UPS in the industry field, this thesis describes how to establish a MODBUS-based platform of remote monitoring and controlling for mechanical and electronic equipments, and realizes remote management for devices on the RS-485 bus.Firstly, based on domestic and international study for remote monitoring and controlling systems and analysis of various construction modes of them, this thesis takes UPS as an example, and focuses on realizing MODBUS protocol on RS-485 bus and researching on serial communication, multithread, Automation and database accessing based on Windows OS. Secondly, after analyzing the requirements of the remote monitoring and controlling system for UPS, this thesis puts forward a solution based on MODBUS protocol. And the system model is constructed. Thirdly, this thesis shows design scheme and realization method of the remote monitoring and controlling system for UPS based on MODBUS protocol. Hardware component and realization of software part of embedded communication card is discussed. And it explains detailedly the design and realization of remote monitoring and controlling platform and shows the software flowcharts, code and debugging result. Finally the test of this monitoring and controlling system is finished. The test results indicate that all the information of UPS could be shown on the monitoring and controlling platform by RS-485 bus and embedded communication card. The production has been checked and accepted, and the prospective design requirement is obtained.The platform for remote monitoring and controlling equipments sustains effectively the service of manufactures to clients, presents a universal way of administering mechanical and electronic equipments remotely.
