Taking a broad view of the urgent demand to information-based management of economic development of the world, attentive study is made for the three-tier C/S architecture ERP system based on ERP theory in this paper. The background and meaning of the topic is firstly introduced , then the characteristics, evolution, and developing trend of ERP are discussed, which expatiate the necessity for Chinese enterprise to implement ERP. On the application structure, the traditional two-tier C/S architecture is altered, extending the client and server to client, business and server, and dividing the indicatory tier and functional tier into independent tier which can place in the same or different platforms .in this case, the flexility is strengthened greatly, and the "thin client" can be genuinely done .Secondly ,the Unified Modeling Language is introduced ,and dividing the function module for the BTERP system .Carrying on the ERP system by making use of the Rational Rose 2000. Utilizing the use case diagram, sequence diagram and class diagram express the models of system and their interaction, so the obvious corresponding relationship is to be set up between model and the executive object ,and is to the program language. Designing the reasonable data construction, which is backstaged by the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and using the Transact-SQL language to establish the database table. At last, the specific function is realized by programming the VB codes, with the system design completed.
