Radio Frequency Identification technology is a new technology of auto identification in recent years, wiretless and bidirection communication between reader and contactless card is their communicaton mode and to identificate the goal and to swap data by radio frequency identifation. The power of IC card circuit is supplied by the power of electromagnetic wave from reader. Compared with contact IC card, contactless IC card has some characteristics such as reliability,security and convenience.Radio Frequency Identification system is composed of Reader and Transponder, communication module and man machine interface. Transponder is the true data carrier of radio frequency identification. Transponder is in the state of passive when it is out of the range of reader while it is active when it is in the range of reader.The power that transponder need is come from coupling unit like clock pulse and data.Reader can be used as proximity coupling device which has the function of read and write.The paper introduce the classification, configuration and operational principle of radio frequency identification system. The technology of contactless IC card is a technology that combines the radio frequency identification with the IC card technology successfully. The internal structure of contactless IC card and it's operational principle is introduced briefly .The design of contactless IC card reader is the key to apply the technology of radio frequency. Based on the technology of radio frequency identification and ISO 14443 TypeA protocol, a method to design contactless IC card reader is presented by using the core module of contactless IC card reader and RISC single chip microprocessor and by taking the Mifare card as the object of identification. The design of hardware and software are described in detail. The reader has many good features, such as reliability, low power consumption and high performance of anti-interference.
