WebGIS is a new subject, which uses network technology to extend and perfect traditional GIS (Geography Information System). It uses request-response mechanism between client and server to provide spatial data for terminal users. The application of WebGIS includes releasing, exploring and searching spatial data etc. With the development of WebGIS, more and more data (including spatial data and attribute data) are stored in the GIS database. Under such a situation, how to organize these data and how to use these data to supply people with valuable information become urgent problems for us to resolve. And architecting an OLAP-Oriented WebGIS is exactly the method we have found. In the recent 10 years, the emergence of data warehouse and On-Line Analysis Processing (which is based on data warehouse) provides a way for computers to support decision. After a thorough study of data warehouse and OLAP, the author brings forward a WebGIS architecting technology based on data warehouse, and in the paper he illustrates how to use this technology to integrate data warehouse and OLAP with modern GIS (such as component GIS or WebGIS) in a real system. In fact, he has already established a WebGIS system, which is helpful to decision-making through associating with an OLAP subsystem. On the other hand, it is another important problem in GIS area to speed up the system to digest large-scale spatial data to produce a map for users immediately. This paper also explores this problem, and has achieved a good effect. An OLAP-Oriented WebGIS, naming IntelliGIS has already been implemented in a Police Management Platform which is established for Gezhenpu Police Station. The system makes up for the weakness of those independent systems and takes a good effect in practice.
