In recent years, with the rapid development of China’s economy and information technology, the insurance industry flourishing and the competition has become more and more intense. Extracting valuable information from the distributed mass data and rapid decision-making has become the key to determine the competitiveness of the insurance companies, Business intelligence system based on data warehouse provided a good solution. This paper described and analyzed the design and implementation of the insurance business intelligence system combining with the practical project in an insurance company.This paper carried out a detailed requirements analysis for the business intelligence system combined the insurance industry’s business characteristics and problems existed in this company. On this basis, using the data warehouse model design, data extraction transformation and loading (ETL) process, and online analytical processing technology to achieve the construction of the business intelligence system. In the data warehouse modeling, used an integrated modeling method with 3NF and star models, to achieve the design of concept model, logical and physical models. Used ETL tools and stored procedures to achieve the ETL process and task scheduling. In online analytical processing, achieved the establishment of data cube based on OLAP technology, and showed the multidimensional analysis results using the powerful reporting capabilities of Cognos tools, completed the design of business intelligence system. Considered the security of system, this paper gives a method for authority management.The BI system has been running well at present and effectively to solve the non-standard data, low utilization, information silos and other issues, achieved the integration of various information resources and the interconnection of business systems, and provided a powerful support of analysis and policy decision for the business units and senior leaders.
