The rapid development of Information Technology (IT) promotes the development of modern logistics greatly. At the same time, the level of Logistic Information System (LIS) in our country is much lower than the level of developed countries. So it is urgent to develop LIS and as main part of LIS, Material Supply Management (MSM) system provides data to support the decision of company managers. In this thesis, a MSM system for a chemical engineering company is investigated and developed.The research results can be summarized as following:1. The development process of distribute computer system is introduced and the limitations of reported MSM system are presented. Then advantages of the J2EE system architecture are described based on the analysis of popular J2EE technique.2. According to Rational Unified Process (RUP), system requirements of a MSM system are analysed by Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams and a system object model is established.3. Refer to J2EE and new computer techniques, a multi-layer system architecture of MSM system is designed. Capability and Cost of the MSM system are considered.4. Many design patterns such as MVC pattern, Factory pattern and so on, are applied to the MSM system such that the MSM system is more expansible.5. General components are designed based on components technique and the stability and reuse ability of the MSM system is strengthened.6. According to database design rules, database tables of the MSM system are designed and many kinds of views and restrictions are also created.7. The application of the MSM system in a chemical engineering company is described detailedly and the effect on the company logistic is shown.On the basis of the summarization of the research work in this thesis, the conclusion and further development on MSM system are discussed finally.
