With the developing of information technology, the process of component design, analysis and manufacture had been integrated in one system through the CAE, CAD, CAM. Moreover, with the maturity of technology of CE and CIM, the design, production and management of the single part had been already achieved a level of integration and automation. However, the technology of assembly design was relatively backward due to the fact that assembly process totally depended on experience of expertise. Compared to the advanced technology of design, manufacture and management, the semi-automatization for assembly design seriously restrained the efficiency and the cost for marketing. From this background, this paper utilized virtual reality technology to develop a completely interactive 3D virtual assembly system, and discussed a number of issues of system implementation.After acquired the functional requirements and non functional requirements of the virtual assembly system, the paper established a basic framework for the system and defined static relationship and dynamic relationship among the different system modules.Virtual assembly environment is different from the CAD system in modeling, the former focused on the dynamic constraint information management and assembly process information. This paper adopted the idea of object-oriented thought to compare the assembly model with directed graph model, with the vertex describing the parts and directed edge describing the assembly constraints. Then the paper gave the model of part information.With the method of division, the assembly sequence planning problem was divided into various sub-assembly sequence issues, combined with experience in assembling and cost in assembling to optimize the planning process. Then the technique of sub-assembly extraction was discussed in the paper.In order to improve the authenticity of the operation in the virtual environment, the paper analyzed the main collision detection algorithm in the application of virtual assembly and took the flexible auxiliary support for example to suggest a solution framework for collision detection scheme. The paper presented to the assembly path playback in using key point sampling, and linear interpolation solution.Finally, the paper described the OSG as the development platform software for the systems implementation, and flexible auxiliary support for the test sample to verify the scientificalness and practical applicability of system design.
