Piston ring is one of important parts of internal combustion engines. Accordingly, there is strict request to the measure of its parameters. The conical degree is a important parameter of taper piston ring, so it is very important to measure the conical degree quickly and accurately. Auto-separation machine of taper piston ring is the intelligent instrument which can measure the conical degree and the conical direction. According to the result, it can also auto separate the piston ring.The paper discusses mostly of research to auto-separation machine of taper piston ring. Firstly, it stated traditional measure means of conical degree, as well as researching level on conical degree measurement of taper piston ring inside and outside. Secondly, it summarizes the measuring principal and working principal of the machine. It also describes a whole design frame about the instrument on the basis of the concretely requiring which emphasizes on the selection of the mechanism. Thirdly, the paper emphatically discusses the software design. There are two parts of the software: system software running in the top computer and software running in microchip controller. According the command from server, the microchip controller implements the rational act of dropping, delivering, measuring and feeds back the data of sensors to server for data-processing. Moreover, the microchip controller also featured by error diagnosing, error processing. With the clean surface, the system software running in the top computer send the concrete command to microchip controller for measurement or adjustment and processes the sampling data feed back by microchip controller and displays the measuring result. The serveralso featured by chart-displaying, printing, data-saving. Finally, after experimenting with the instrument, we deal with and analyzed the data to ensure whether the instrument meets the designing request.The experimenting result indicates that all technical conditions appeases request. The result also indicates that the system software can successfully control the whole process of the measurement, and implement the function of data-acquiring, data-processing, chart-displaying, analyzing, warning and error-processing.
