With the growth of our national economy and the durative boost of social purchasing power, the automotive industry shows an unprecedented development momentum,the piston as the important part of engine also being in a fast grow. So the products require a higher inner quality and life of the pistons. The traditional design method of die of piston casting machine has been unable to adapt to the requirement of renewal and higher quality of the products.According to the problems which are needed to solve urgently and technology gap of CAD/CAE between our nation and international advanced level of piston die, this dissertation puts forward the integrated idea of CAD/CAE and combines with the actual production, at last it realizes the integrated CAD/CAE of die of piston casting machine and shortens the trail-period, reduces the production cost, improves the inner quality of the pistons. It is significant in guiding the enterprises and gives the certain promoter action to enhance the competitive ability for the enterprises.The dissertation bases on the mathematics physical model of metal casting process. The implementation method of ProCAST software for metal casting process's numerical simulation are represented. 3D solid modeling of piston should be completed by UG software and design three kinds of runner and gate systems according to the actual production. The flow field and temperature field of numerical simulation are applied in the casting process of piston FEM model by ProCAST software. It is intuitionistic to show the changing process of metal liquid while filling and flowing and compares the defects of shrinkage porosity to choose the optimum project among them. Finally, die design of piston casting machine is completed by UG software according to the optimum project.
