The media industry has become the fourth most important one of China's economy after electronic information, manufacturing, and tourism industries. It has expanded continually by 25% in 3 years, which has accounted for 0.79% ofthe GDP, 4 times higher than the average increase of GDP. The development ofthe media industry is playing a more and more important role in the development of the world's economy. Since 1990s, the media industry in the world has changed a lot, which operates according to market rules and the developing tendency of which is globalization. At the same time, China's media industry is undergoing a big change. Before the media of China was regarded to be propaganda tool of the government and its development was restricted under such a managing system. With the deepening of the reform of China and after China's entrance of the World Trade Organization, the Chinese media industry has been industrialized and operates according to market rules. A lot of media groups have been set up. Resulted in the reform of the economic system, collectivization in the media industry meets the demands of the development of the society. Globalization is not only a good opportunity but also a big challenge to China's economy. China's media industry is developing fast in recent years; however, is has some obvious inferiorities compared with strong media groups in the world. This thesis summarizes the studies of group-oriented development of media industry in both Chinese and overseas academic circles, objectively represents the development, indicates the importance of the industry and predicts the developing tendency. It attempts to analyze the problems in the development of Chinese media industry and seek effective ways.
