Study Of Workflow Management System And Implementation Of Workflow Modeling Tool

Modern business management is process oriented. It has the dynamic characteristic of business process reengineering and organization reconstruction. Workflow management is a core technology for process modeling and process management and can effectively support the business process reengineering. So workflow management system appears. A good workflow management system can make use of original resources and provide flexibility in change of organization and improvement of technology. This thesis studies workflow management system and implements a workflow modeling tool.Firstly, the basic concepts and the advantage of workflow management are introduced. Then the progress and sort of workflow products are given. After presenting situation of research and tendency of workflow management system, the background of this discussion is explained and the main works of the author are outlined. Secondly, The key technologies related to the design of workflow management system, mainly Activities-based Net and XML technology and Relational DataBase, are introduced. Then the merits of these technologies used in the development of workflow management system are listed.Thirdly, analysis and design of workflow management system are discussed, especially workflow engine. Then an Relational Database-based workflow engine is presented and illustrated deeply.Fourthly, a new modeling method based XML is put forward. Then a workflow modeling tool is designed and implemented and shortcomings of the modeling tool and the future research direction are pointed. At last, in order to make us understand the use of the modeling tool, a material example is given.Finally, the author summarizes the whole thesis and points out direction of future work.
