The Application Of Streaming Media Technology And Smil Language In The Remote Education System

With the development of the information technology, digital media have gradually changed the of traditional information transmission methods. The Multimedia Courseware System developed in this environment has begun to show its unexampled advantages in teaching,training etc.. While there are some shortages in the traditional courseware system, such as the weak interaction,too large files ,much complicated courseware-manufacturing and unsuitable for real-time transfer on net .Then streaming technology has occurred.This paper give a detailed description of streaming, including the principles, the file format and the transfer. It also gives the differences between the streaming service and Web service.Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language is a kind of network-multimedia application language based on XML(Extensible Markup Language). This paper introduces the application of SMIL on distance education.At last, I design mainly the two parts of the system ——courseware-manufacturing and courseware-playing . In this part, I make full use of the strong point of the streaming technology and realize playing the courseware on net. The most important in this part's design is the synchronization of streaming file's play and the courseware content's show. It is realized by SMIL language.
