The paper is based on research and development of locomotive logic control unit and locomotive distributed microprocessor control system, which are subsystems of locomotive control system. The object of the paper is researching which kind of reliable, high speed and configurable communication network should be acted as controller bus in locomotive distributed control system and how the reliability of communication network could be guaranteed in complex locomotive field environment. Communication control strategy has adopted bus redundant design. Software programming has transplanted embedded real-time operating system C/OS-II, on which is communication application software design based.The paper firstly introduces the developing history and current situation of locomotive microprocessor control and communication system. The two correlated research projects are listed. According to train communication network standard and performance characteristics of CAN bus, the paper has illustrates the reasons that CAN bus not as train bus and vehicle but as device bus or controller bus.The paper has designed double CAN redundant communication based on MB90F543 MCU (micro controller unit). The designs include redundant communication and management software development. The paper sets forth software design strategy and key technology in detail.According to different project request, different software layouts and function designs have been put forward both in locomotive logic control unit and in locomotive distributed control system. Double CAN communication software tests and routine experiments have been accomplished. The software has successfully applied in SS3 and SS9 electric locomotive.In conclusion, the achievements are concluded and the disadvantages are listed.
