As our country continues to improve the speed of our railway transportation, the requirement of locomotive manipulation also increase. However, as SS3, SS6 electric locomotive's control system is still using the traditional relay control. This method of locomotive controlling can easily cause bad contact of the move contact and slack contact. thus result in malfunction of the controlling circuit occur during long-time operation. And as the speed of the locomotive is getting higher, the vibration of the relay contact increases too, which will endanger the running of whole system.In order to overcome the drawback of relay control and to improve control performance of the locomotive, the LCU (logic control unit, the logic control device) system will replace the traditional relay control method, this has become the prevailing approach. The use of advanced micro-computer technology and the logic of power electronics control unit, thereby replacing the original electric locomotive relay control, and improved the operational safety of the locomotive.In this paper, taking type SS-6 electric locomotive as example to analyse the locomotive electric controlling system, extraction of input and output signals, designing a ladder diagram of locomotive logic control. And in accordance with the logic control and characteristics of SS6, designed the overall structure of the LCU based on TMS320F2812 + CPLD control chip. Completed the designing of central control board, input and output circuit board principium design and PCB design. At the same time, using C language, CCS compiler to write LCU logic control programs, communications programs, and system failure, self-diagnosis function designing.
