It is believed that Internet has been playing a great role in our society. There are a lot of information used by people in the network. On the other hand, people today are faced with the challenge of islands of information . Often, information needed by people is spread throughout various website. To accomplish the right information, people must know how to connect the website and search for the information they want no matter where it resides on the network. It is very difficult for us to access the right information that we want .Thus,we need to pick up the useful information from the disorderly and unsystematic information sea. As a result, the digital library has emerged as the times require.Middleware is a class of software technologies designed to help manage the complexity and heterogeneity inherent in distributed systems. It is defined as a layer of software above the operating system but below the application program that provides a common programming abstraction across a distributed system . In doing so ,it provides Application Programming Interfaces(APIs) . This significantly reduces the burden on application programmers by relieving them of this kind of tedious programming . Middleware frameworks are designed to mask some of the kinds of heterogeneity that programmers of distributed systems must deal with. They always mask heterogeneity of networks and hardware.. Most middleware frameworks also mask heterogeneity of operating systems or programming languages, or both. This paper gives a total blue print of digital library based on the middleware technology from the interoperability ,the system extendability and the security of the digital library. The paper has finished analyzing middleware technology and its development and status, comparing the more prevalent middleware types ,analyzing the importance of the interoperability and the role of the software system construct in the large-scale application, comparing the characteristic of the more prevalent distributed operation system's technology, analyzing the system model of the overseas digital library and the status of our digital library.
