The technology and method that design and implement digital systemfundamentally change with the surprising progress of electronic technology and theappearance and development of Programmable ASIC and hardware descriptionlanguage. The general standard integrated circuit design method will outdated afterentering 21st century. This article studies a FPGA application in digital system by studying FPGAinternal structure, and incorporating structural digital design principles in softwareengineering and features in hardware description language. The microprocessor is a typical digital system. We focus on design andimplementation of microprocessor and investigate how to design digital systemusing hardware description language and schematic edition. We show that anycontrol algorithm can be implemented as hardware by using programmable ASICand digital EDA, which is a new concept to both control theory academia and theindustry. Although the microprocessor Mper8 has many functions and features, ittake up only 57% of the CLBs and 40% of the LUT, which design and implementbased on XS40 platform. We also study the design of FIR on FPGA. Most DSP devices adopted DSPmicroprocessor or special-purpose DSP chip at present, so they are inferior inReal-Time or flexibility. The combination of FPGA and Digital Signal Processing(DSP) technology can fit DSP in integration,speed and system function, which isthe third method on FPGA. We also study the implementation of FIR math model indistributed algorithm by adopting distributed algorithm, look-up table technique andVHDL and propose how to describe the binary number in CSD method andoptimized method. Different kinds of FIR can be implement especially by dealingwith VHDL description or FIR parameter respectively. The simulation shows thatthe good performance can be achieved by our implementation of digital signal filteron FPGA.
