On Library Characteristic Construction

In the 21st century, Chinese libraries encounter opportunities and challenges of developing. Under the new situation, Characteristic construction is a new thought of leading the libraries to get rid of the predicament and quicken sustainable development. At present, it is of great significance in theory and practice studying the problem of library characteristic construction in our country.The dissertation uses various methods, including document investigation and analysis, Internet resource investigation and analysis, compare investigation, synthesis, etc., to study the problems related to library characteristic construction.The dissertation has three major parts. In first chapter, the author expounds the necessity and realistic significance of library characteristic construction in detail by analyzing social environment, network environment and inner environment of library, and proposes that characteristic construction is the unique choice for Chinese libraries to develop steadily. In second chapter, the theory on library characteristic construction was discussed. Author expatiates deeply on the meaning of special library and the characteristic of library, and differentiates between the two concepts. In third chapter, the author makes suggestions on principle and policy to library characteristic construction, and designs construction modes about it. Finally, several practical measures are given out.
