The explosive increase of information and business on Internet/Intranet, the increasing complexity of network environment and the uncertainty of product suppliers entail a new active, intelligent, dynamic technology which can reflect the changes of all kinds of information in order to satisfy the people's demands for e-commerce. The mobile agent technology applied to e-commerce can achieve a series of individual services ranging from intelligent resource discovery to virtual market negotiation on network. In order to realize the autonomy and unlimited mobility of mobile agent under the circumstances of Internet/Intranet, in this paper, a mobile agent environment based on Web service is designed. This mobile agent environment combines the virtue of Web service and mobile agent technology, and use XML, a data markup language, to integrate different mobile agent systems. And this environment is called container. It is released on the net in the form of Web service, and the services provided by all agents running on the platform is encapsulated to Web service. Then mobile agents can take advantage of the capability of Web service to discover the needed container conveniently, move into the container and communicate with other agents in it. The platform can manage Web service running on it in an uniform way and provide corresponding support service. The knowledge, which the agent transmits and shares, and the communication language which the agent uses are coded with XML/RDF, and the container can provide transforming service between XML/RDF and KQML/ACL/KIF. Finally, the designed mobile agent environment is discussed from its mobility, security, communication, interoperability, fault tolerance, implementation language and so on.
