Graphics display is vital one of three main function parts of virtual instrument ——Signal collection, Digital processing and Result expression. It is also one difficulty of virtual instrument's software developing . While there is much similar character in many occasion , so it is necessary to research and develop a good generality , many functions and more humanity intelligent virtual display screen .This paper reviews the developing history and trend of virtual instrument, including the concept brought forward, virtual instrument broadly recogize , Agilent and Tektronix Inc. using virtual instrument to reconstruct the traditional hardware instrument ( for example, infiniium 58400 and TDS5000 oscillograph), and the international and domestic actuality or development of virtual instrument. And a new method —— Intelligent Virtual Controls Instrument is introduced. What the ideal is that intelligent cells of instrument can compose various instruments, and can show them to user on PC , which are derived from virtual controls by conbine virtual control and functions of instrument through functions endowing. The intelligent cells of instrument named intelligent virtual controls is a kind of living virtual part endowed instrument functions , which descibe the appearance and the essential of Intelligent Virtual Controls Instrument, equally to say that Intelligent Virtual Controls Instrument is embodied by intelligent virtual controls.By researching data structure and display method of different display model of VI, a uniform display screen data structure is advanced, which including appearance parameter, channels number and layout of windows, graphics data and display parameter, to unify the operation and storage of one-dim , two-dim and three-dim, wave figure, XY figure, straight figure, color figure, relief map. And a new method base on software adapter and area configure is brought forward. In term of software engineering, by using it, the program difficulty can be reduced , the maintainability of software system can be enhanced , and appending,deleting or modifying some software of a display model becomes more easily. On the other hand , for functions, it settles the freely and intelligently switching among different models or odd channel and multicenter and smartly distributing of windows , to ensure to meet the requirement of complicated instrument.Based on the character of display equipment and human's vision, in order to meet real time display, accelerate display and get over flicker, many methods has been advanced or adopted , including many times zoom. At last, a many functions and plug and play intelligent virtual display screen has been successfully developed, with flexible HMI, having memory and self-adapted, ability to freely switch and set up everywhere.Finally, this paper introduce the assemble of intelligent controls-oriented virtual instrument ——Virtual oscillograph. It has many functions , including waving , FFT analysis , parameter measurement,storage, print and operation.
