In recent years, because of the well-known advantages of digital TV technology, the transition from analog TV to digital TV has become obviously faster and faster. On the basis of the situation in our country, STB will become the bridge of transition between analog TV and digital TV, and DVB-C STB will become the main product. Therefore, there are important science values and pratical meanings to exploit and design DVB-C STB software.This paper comprehensively analyzes key STB technologies and proposes the project of STB software structure accroding to international standards of MPEG-2 and DVB-C. This project has been shown to be viable and advanced in actural use. This software's unique advantages are as follows:1. The software is easily maintained and upgraded because the structure of it is hiberarchical. Its modularization programming allows each part of the sortware to have its own function.2. This software has more functions than other comparable STB software; besides, it is cheaper and more user friendly than other foreign software. It has both Chinese and English munu, so it can satisfy most needs of the consumers.3. The special function of this software is that it has EPG. This function can help the consumers know more about the particular TV programme information and lead the consumers to choose TVprogrammes easily accroding to event information or event time tables. Accordingly, this function can help the consumers feel the advantages of digital TV that analog TV does not have. 4. Another special function of this software is to use a small window for viewing the actural TV programmes. This function is embeded in EPG. When the consumers want to search the event time table, he can watch TV and search at the same time, this not having to wait.
