Application Of Workflow Technology In IDE (Integrated Data Environment)

The present paper mainly discusses the application of workflow technology in IDE(integrated data environment). As the core technology of BPR(business process re-engineering) process management and process automation, workflow has a extensive application prospect during the process of implementing the CALS(EDE) strategy. This paper studies the NATO CALS(IDE) project and analyzes NATO CALS's characteristics of organization and business process based on the deep research of workflow technology. From the management viewpoint, an implementation plan is brought forward about the application of workflow in IDE. During the course of BPR, process modeling, simulation, analysis and optimization can be done well using two types of workflow model which are the process model based on activity network diagram and the process model based on Petri net. From the technical viewpoint, a inter-organization process integration plan based on distributed workflow and a feasible distributed workflow system implementation project using IT are put forward. These techniques include CORE A, JAVA, XML WEB and distributed transaction. It has great instructional significance for our country to implement CALS(IDE) strategy. At last, we show the application of workflow in CALS(EDE) using a typical case.
