The development of rural education depends mainly on the improvement of rural teachers' quality, so how to provide effective in-service training for rural teachers brings a major challenge to rural teachers' team building. The study on the demand of rural teachers for in-service training lays a foundation for more effective in-service training. With the help of the combination of qualitative and quantitative research, this paper describes and analyzes the present demand of rural teaches and probes into the useful ways to supply teachers' in-service training according to their demands.The paper are divided into six parts. Part one mainly shows the background and the present supply of rural teachers' in-service training, in aspects of big gap between rural and urban areas. Part two looks back into the studies on theories of teacher training and on rural teachers' demand for in-service training; it also gives a commentary on previous studies. Part three is the study frame from the points of problem, key concepts and methodology.Part four deals with the data from questionnaire and interview, trying to scoop out the influential factors and to show a whole picture of rural teachers' demand, from the qualitative and quantitative angles individually as well as the combination of them two. Part five give some discussion on inefficiency of teachers' in-service training and makes great efforts to find out the rooting causes. Last part poses four suggestions on improving the efficiency of teachers' in-service training.
