The reading competence of an individual decides his personal qualities directly. One of the important tasks in the Chinese teaching is that broadens students'horizons, improves the ability of appreciating the literatures, molds their sentiment and cultivates their healthy graceful aesthetic and perfect personalities through the extensive reading. In the course of current teaching practice, however, the effect of reading teaching is still not good and even the quality of teaching.In the age of popular culture, traditional Chinese teaching, especially the reading teaching, will have to face up to historical challenge which is brought by new social environment and culture context. There is need to undertake the important human education task of inheritance of excellence culture, building students'personality, fostering the Chinese attainment. Therefore, in order to do this,it is necessary to return to those literature masterpieces in which accumulate the essential of human thought and national culture, to read to improve the students'human accomplishment and to complete the historical mission which Chinese teaching has.This paper aims to make a thorough study of connotation of literary masterpieces, to probe the teaching model of literary masterpieces and effective method by combination of the present situation of Chinese reading teaching and reading situation of senior high school students', reference of Chinese and Foreign education teaching theory and cultural theory.
