Literature reading enjoys a high importance in Chinese teaching. The new curriculum standard requires us to pay special attention to reading teaching. However, it's been always a difficult thing to appreciate the flavor of literature in classroom teaching and literature education hasn't been able to fully fulfill its functions. This essay comprehensively analyses the existing problems from three aspects. First, the status of the students who study literature works has been weakened or lost. Second, there has been a tendency of getting rid of literature texts. More importantly, teaching of literature reading hasn't been able to master the internal rules and therefore the literature nature of Chinese teaching has been lost. Based on the above reasons, the essay attaches importance to the students' status in teaching of literature reading and encourages students to read literature themselves. The essay also emphasizes that teaching of literature reading must come back to the texts , respect the texts and it must reflect the beauty of the literature works. Only by realizing the essence of humanity based on the texts can the teaching of literature reading in high school return to normal and truly fulfill its education functions.
