Research On The Social Support Net Of New-Generation Migrant Workers

Many researches on social support network of migrant workers show that the social support network of migrant workers is limited to the blood-based and geographically-based network of primary social relations with the features of small-scale, high convergence and low heterogeneity lacking of government, social organizations and communities. However, the new generations of migrant workers are different from the old generation in cultural levels, experience, and psychology. Thus, their social support network has new characteristics.Wang Chunguang and others have also carried out researches for this group, but the scope of their studies mainly confined to the old generation of migrant workers on the comparison of characteristics, the security of rights and interests, the citizenization and other aspects of macro level, few of which involves the channel for promoting the urban social identity to the new generation of migrant workers in the micro-level. This study takes the new generation of migrant workers as the subjects from the W Sub-district Office in Mudan District of Heze City, Shandong Province using questionnaire survey and the method of combining in-depth interviews to explore the new generation of migrant workers'social support network.The author divides the social support network into three dimensions: material support network, emotional support networks and instrumental support network, respectively exploring the characteristics of the social support network of the new generation of migrant workers from the aspects of the formal social support networks and informal social support networks Analysis.Research shows that the new generation of migrant worker'the social support network, compared with that of the older generation of migrant workers, has significant been changed. The formal support network has been greatly improved, which in some cases is even the most important support source for the new generation of migrant workers.The informal network, though still having the features of small-scale, high convergence and low heterogeneity, have already broken through the older generation's blood-based or geographically-based network of primary relations, and have transfered to establish the network of relationship based on blood, colleage, classmates, friends, and other sub-relations-based networks.Specifically, the formal material support network, the formal spiritual support network are still imperfect. The new generation of migrant workers rely on the informal material support network and informal spiritual support network to get corresponding support. Formal instrumental support network is developing rapidly; especially in the days after entering the city for some time, the new generation of migrant workers mainly get corresponding support through the formal support network.
