Abstract/Summary:
Social skills also can be called as social interpersonal skills, refers to the skills that can promote to build good relationship of human beings. It is a behavior way obtained from learning by the individual to effectively communicate with others in social situations. As a special community social skills may be significant to college student. Presently, the relative research of this domain is few, in-depth researches under Chinese distinct culture has both important theory meaning and practice value.The research adopts questionnaire method , applies Chinese University students Social Skill Inventory ( ChUSSI) by Mao Xinhua,Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS) by Xiao Shuiyuan and SCL-90 as formal measurement , takes 318 college students come from grade 1to grade 4 in Northwest University as testees. This article aims at exploring the characteristics of social skills development,social support development of college students and the factors that influence them, we also want to research the relationship between social skills,social support and mental health of college students. It draws the conclusions as the following: (1) There is no obvious difference among grades in social skills development as a whole (P= 0.215) , but there is a rising process with different grades: the lowest is the freshmen and the highest is the senior, the sophomores and the juniors have an obvious rise process. It means that with the age' s growing the level of the social skills of college students is improving; there are obvious differences between sex,majority and there are no obvious differences between the only children and the ground source. In general social skills, there are obvious differences just between different gender (P= 0.015), male are higher than female; there are obvious gender differences between sociability and relationship (P= 0. 043,P=0.000),male are higher than female; there are also obvious majority differences between sociability and relationship (P= 0.025,P=0.033), liberal art students are higher than science students.(2) There is no obvious difference among grades in social support development as a whole (P= 0. 889), and no obvious difference in utilization support (P= 0. 554). Generally speaking, there are obvious difference among objective support subjective support and the total marks. In detail, female get more objective support and more subjective support than male (P=0. 000, P= 0.031) ; the students' objective support and subjective support from only child families are more than those from children' families(P=0. 022, P=0. 000); the students come from city can get more subjective support than students come from country (P=0. 002). In general, There is no obvious difference among different sex, but only child families are higher than children' families (P=0. 025), the students come from city are higher than students come from country (P=0. 028).(3) The study shows that there is a obvious positive correlation between social skills and social support of college students (r=0. 288, P=0. 000) , the relationship of college students' social skills and social support and mental health is a obvious negative correlation (r=-0. 298, P=0.000; r=-0. 253, P=0. 000) ; The regression equation that constituted by social skills and social support has statistical significance (F=21. 349, P<0. 001) and also has prominent direct prediction function on psychological symptom, can explain 11.9% of the mental symptom.(4) Social skills don't have a immediate impact on mental health, yet social support is the intervening variable.
