Employment Pressure And Mental Health Of Vocational College Students: The Intermediary Role Of Social Support

Higher vocational students generally face greater employment pressure.The impact of employment pressure on students,and how to interfere with this pressure,alleviate its adverse effects has been a problem to be solved.There are two parts in this study,in the first study,400 vocational college graduates are selected from three vocational colleges in Shenyang as the sample through random sampling.They are surveyed on graduates' employment pressure.There are 372 effective questionnaires,and the collecting rate is 93%.In the second study,we plan to further explore the relationship between employment pressure,social support and mental health of vocational college students and the mediating role of social support in the both.They are surveyed with College students employment pressure questionnaire,Social support rating scale and Symptom checklist 90,and the data were analyzed statistically,then we get the final results:(1)The vocational college graduates are under employment pressure.There are significant difference in demographic variables of employment pressure.the girls are significantly higher than that of boys;the only child is significantly higher than the non only child;rural students are significantly higher than those in small towns and big cities.(2)There is obvious difference in the source place of students of social support and mental health of vocational college students.It shows that the mental health level of students in middle and small towns was significantly lower than rural students;the social support level of students in big cities was significantly higher than that of the middle and small town.(3)Employment pressure is negatively related to mental health;Social support are negatively related to employment pressure;Social support are positively related to mental health.(4)It shows that the influence of employment pressure on mental health include direct and indirect effect by intermediary variable(social support)and the ratio of the mediating effect accounts for 17.6 per cent of the total ratio.In conclusion,vocational college graduates are suffering from the effect of employment pressure which has direct influence on mental health,and has indirect effect on it with the intervening variable of social support.The higher social support will alleviate the negative impact of employment pressure,thus reducing the damage of pressure on mental health.
