In the process of the transformation from medical model to bio - psycho - social medical model, modern doctor-patient relationship has been widely involved in social, economic, political, and cultural area, and became more complex for interweaving with individual ethics morality, psychological status, and cognition of rights and obligations. As a special relationship, "communication" became more and more important in doctor-patient contact. At present plenty of studies have indicated that favorable doctor-patient communication, including verbal communication, psychological communication, behavioral communication, can promote the information exchange between doctor and patient, can improve the doctor-patient relationship, can help doctors diagnose and implement treatment accurately, can enhance patients' satisfaction and compliance. Therefore, the International Medical Education has requested clearly that future doctor trained by medical college should master the competence of favorable communication with patients. Along with evolution of medical model, the focus of medical education curriculum reformation begin to focus on improving the relevance and quality of education, demand to establish curriculum which can develop students' intelligence and competence, improve the interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary nature of learning contents, develop rapidly by information and communication technology, assume instruction methods which can improve the effect of learning to evaluate the effect of learning and boost all-round reformation of medical education.After reading a large number of literature, investigating doctor-patient communication curriculum of medical college, analyzing the teaching environment, student needs, teaching implementation, teaching evaluation of present doctor-patient communication curriculum, this study brought forward that present instruction model of doctor-patient communication should be reformed. The structure of medical student doctor-patient communication curriculum was established on the interview with experts and students, teaching practice, consulting to experts and analyzing the current situation of doctor-patient communication education. This research was setting a clear aim of curriculum, integrating the knowledge from ethics, psychology, sociology, medicine and law, applying variety of teaching methods, focusing on improving the students' awareness of doctor-patient communication and training their communicating skill, and transmitting affective education and humanistic education in medical education. Furthermore, this research can help student understand the importance of doctors serving as social human in particular medical circumstance, and realize that doctor-patients communication is patient-centered and is a clinical core competency including attitude, knowledge and skill.The development of medical model raised higher requirements for doctor-patient communication, and improvement of society and student individual development also asked for more demand to the model. The improvement of medical students' doctor-patient communication competence should be achieved by effective medical education. Communication instruction should be different from the present medical education, and also should be suitable for medical education system.
