Objective: Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSHL or SD)(i.e, unexplained unilateral sensorineural hearing loss with onset over a period of less than three days) can be associated with tinnitus, congestion, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, taking great pain to the patients. Despite accepting many active treatments, some patients still remain permanent hearing loss and tinnitus. It becomes anganger disease in the ENT. Charrier showed that SD usually happens to single-ear. The cause and pathogenesis of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss remain unknown. Proposed theories include vascular occlusion, viral infections and autoimmune. The admitted theories is that cochlear circulatory dysfunction caused by one or more factors aboving leads to hearing loss. Therefore, the treatment for the SD should improve the microcirculation of internal ear, improve the oxygen pressure of vasa auris interane and cochlear lymphatic fluid. then prevent necrosis of cochlear hearing cell, and promote the functional rehabilitation of Na+-K+ion pump. SD has an estimated incidence between 8 and 14.6 per100, 000 persons per year, and these years it becomes more and younger. The prog- nosis has a significant impac to the patients, especially young patients. The treatments for SSHL include vasoactive hemodilutional substances, systemic antiviral agents, vitamins, HBO and oral or intratympanic steroids and so on.However, an evidence based approach to treatment of this condition remains unclear. But many clinical practices or animal experiments proved that the HBO has an active effect on the treatment of SD. Through investigating hyperbaric oxygen efficacy in sudden deafness,we will discuss the clinical value of hyperbaric oxygen. Methods: In this study, 164 patients who presented to our hospital(from 2009.1 to 2011.1)with sudden hearing loss have been analyzed. On admission, all the patients underwent a general physical examination, audiologic tests (electric auriscope, pure tone audiometry, brainstem evoked response audio- metry, temporal bone CT, blood and urine rout, blood-fasting sugar). The patients who has impacted cerumen take the audiologic tests after taking the cerumen. Some relative diseases have been excluded, such as acoustic nerve tumor, hypertension, diabetes and anaemia. The patients are divided into two groups (drugs group, and HBO group) according to using HBO or not during the therapeutic. And, improving that it does not have significant difference of the correlation factors in the two group (such as age, sex, time for treat, deafness degree, deafness type, concomitant symptom (vertigo, tinnitus); systemic conditions) meanwhile estimated the curative effect by means of x2 analysis. Results: The hyperbaric oxygen(healing rates18.8%effective rates70%) efficacy is higher than drug treatment, (healing rates 13.3%effective rates 59.5%)Conclusion: Hyperbaric oxygen treatment can improve the therapeutic effect. The GenXers hold on sudden deafness easy ,so we should cure on time usingHBO.
