Objective:To observe the clinical effect on treating Scapulohumeral Periarthritis with one of the traditional acupuncture manipulations named "Dragon Wagging Tail" and try to provide a method, which is more effective, to treating Scapulohumeral Periarthritis. Methods:Through using the SPSS program to produce the a serial of random number, 60 Scapulohumeral Periarthritis patients were randomly divided into the treatment group and control group,30 cases in each group. The electro-acupunture therapy is used in both groups and the acu-points we chose mainly locate in the shoulder, combined with some acu-points based on different symptom. However, in the treatment group, acupuncture manipulation named "Dragon Wagging Tail" is applicable when inserting and pulling the needle, as well as no acupuncture manipulation is applied in the control group. Both of groups are asked to take the functional training of the articulatio humeri. All the patients were assessed before and after 1 course of treatment (4weeks) with the Melle Scale, Visual Analogue Score and the Barthel index, to observe the clinical effect on treating Scapulohumeral Periarthritis with acupuncture manipulation named "Dragon Wagging Tail" through the pain's rank, the range of the articulatio humeri's motor and the activities of the daily life.Result: There is no statistics-difference(P>0.05) between the two groups, including age, gender, pattern of syndrome, course of disease, the VAS, the score of Melle Scale and Barthel index, which is recorded before the treatment. And in all 60 patients, the result show the female is a little more than male, average age is 50.5, average course of disease is half years. And the pattern of syndrome named Complex is most common pattern in four of them.1. Comparing before and after the treatment, the score of Visual Analogue and Melle Scale is significantly different(P<0.05) in both groups. And the the scores of Barthel index is similar in statistics (P>0.05). It show that the therapy of acupuncture manipulation combined with electro-acupunture and the thrapy of single electro-acupuncture is effective in releasing the pain and improving the the range of the articulatio humeri's motor, but could not improve the score of the Barthel index.2. The comparison between the two groups is carried out. it shows that the decline in the score of Melle Scale in treatment group is more obvious than the control group, which is significantly different statistically(P<0.05). But the decline in VAS is no difference in both groups statistically (P>0.05). It illustrate that there is no difference in releasing the pain between the two group. However, in improving the the ROM, the combining therapy is superior to the single electro-acupuncture.3. After the therapy, the treatment group had a cured rate of 23.3%, a significant improved rate of 66.6%, and a total effective rate of 86.6%, and 7 cases were cured,13 cases were significant improved,6 cases were improved,4 case had no effect. The control group had a cured rate of 10%, a significant improved rate of 36.6%, and a total effect rate of 76.6%, and 3 cases were cured,8 cases were significant improved,16 cases were improved,7 cases had no effect. The effect of two groups had significant difference (P<0.05).Conclusion:The acupuncture manipulations named "Dragon Wagging Tail" is effective in improving the ROM, releasing the pain. Its general curing effect is superior than the single electro-acupuncture. However, for the less sensitivity of the Barthel index, both of them could not improve the score of the Barthel index.
