Objective:To analyze clinical characteristics and prognostic factors studies of gastric cancer in young patients and provide reference for clinical treatment and prognosis assess. Methods: Clinical data of 155 hospitalized young patients in Fujian Provincial Hospital during a 10-year period from January 1,2001 to December 31,2010 were retrospectively reviewed and followed up. COX model was used to analyse the prognostic factors. Results: In total 155 cases, the young patients were accounted for 3.05% of homochronous patients with gastric cancer. The rate of young patients with gastric carcinoma was almost the same. The proportion of male patients was 44.5% (69/155),and that of female patients was 55.5% (86/155).The ratio of the male and female was 1:1.24.The female was more common than the male.Patients'ages arranged from 16 to 35 years old, with an average age of 31.3 years old.Its clinical symptom is not evident. The patients mainly complained with abdominal pain, were stage III/IV diseases. The tumors were mainly located in gastric sinus with the proportion of 54.9%,and with the underendoscopic types of Borrmann III in the youth group.Pathologically, there were more signet ring cell carcinoma adenocarcinoma (46.5%) than others. Radical resection was performed in 61 cases. The curative resection rate was 42.9%. The overall 5-year survival rate was 14.1% among the patients diagnosed between January 2001 to December 2005. COX regression analysis indicated that the location of tumor growth, pathological type, tumor differentiation, stage of TNM , treatment mode were essential prognostic factors. Degree of tumor differentiation, stage of TNM and treatment mode were independent prognostic factors. Conclusions:Gastric cancer in young patients wasn't seldom and clinical stages were late when diagnosed, with stage III/IV diseases mainly. Degree of tumor differentiation, stage of TNM and treatment mode were independent prognostic factors. The great significance for the survival and prognosis of the youth stomach carcinoma is diagnose early stages and provided individual treatment model.
