The Characteristics And Differences Of Gastric Cancer Between Old Patients And Young Patients In The Clinical Manifestation, Treatment And Prognosis

Objective:To investigate the characteristics and differences of gastric cancer between old patients and young patients in the clinical manifestation, treatment and prognosis。Methods:Retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data from Jan. 2006 to Dec.2008 in Shandong provincial hospital recorded for 62 patients under the age o f 60 and 59 patients over the age o f 60.They all suffered gastric cancer which were confirmed by endoscope or surgical pathology.Results:Sex ratio:there were more female patients in the young groups than in the old groups. Clinical manifestion:There were more cases with flatulence emaciation and dysphasia as the major symptom in the old group while abdominal pain and mass were the common symptoms in the contrasted group. Tumor position: Incidence rate off gastric antrum cancer was higher in young group than old group, but the incidence rate of cardiac cancer was lower in young group than old group. At the same time, the diameter of the mass in the young group was larger than old group. Tumor types:incidence rate of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma was high in young group which were the Borrmann type IV. There were more cases with high and middle differentiated adenocarcinoma in old group which mainly were Borrmann type II and III. Treatmeat:there was no significant difference between radical resection rate and resection rate in two groups. But the 1 year and 3 year survival rate were lower in young group than old group.Conclusions:young group with gastric cancer differ from old group in sex ratio, clinical manifestations,tumor position.size.pathological histology types and prognosis.
