Background:Constipation is a common disease occurs among the stroke patients; what's more, it is also a risk factor of stroke and recurrent stroke. By treating constipation, the uncomfortable feelings for example distention, abdominal pain, hard defecation and elongation of defecation time can be relieved. There are some side effects and drug-addiction of drug therapy. Although there is an exact effect of the traditional acupuncture therapy, it can not be popular as it's professional. So, there are more and more professors seeking for a therapy which is cheaper, more efficiency and more popular.Objective:Seeking for a therapy which is more efficiency and cheaper in curing constipation by this study. Making an observation on the improvement of symptoms of constipation by the study.Method:The prospective randomized controlled study chose 90 cases from the Acupuncture Department of Guangzhou Hospital of TCM during January 2010 to March 2011, which was in accordance with the diagnostic and indrawing standards, to be the subjects of the study. The patients were randomly divided into 3 groups, with 30 cases in each group. The Treatment Group was given point application with scalp acupuncture treatment. The Control Groupl was given body-acupuncture with scalp acupuncture treatment. The Control Group2 was given drug with scalp acupuncture treatment. Before the treatment, each group make a integral evaluation and analysis of symptoms of constipation scores and neurological deficit scores on the onset time, the 7th day of the first course and the 14th day of the second course.Results:1. Physical datas There were 30 cases in each group. There were no significant differences in the age, gender compositon, course of constipation. The three groups were comparable.2. Symptoms of constipation scores There was no significant difference among the three group(P>0.05). Comparing the constipation scores before and after the first course, significant difference could be seen on the Treatment Group and the Control Groupl (P<0.05).After the second course, the result showed that all the three groups had significant difference between the onset time score and the 14th day score (P<0.05). All the three groups had significant difference on the constipation scores between the first course and the second course (P<0.05). There was a singinficant difference by comparing the Treatment Group with the Control Groupl and the Control Group2 after the first course (P<0.05).As at the end of the second course, the result showed that there were significant difference among the three groups (P<0.05)3. Comparing the clinical efficacy of constipation According to the ridit analysis, there was no significant difference of the constipation efficacy among the three groups after the second course. The total effective rate of the Treatment Group is 93.3%; and of both the Control Groupl and Control Group2 is 86.7%. There was no relationship with the clinical efficacy and the types of stroke. It showed that there was no significant difference of the efficacy between cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage (P>0.05)4. Neurological deficit scores evaluation There was no significant difference of the neurological deficit scores among the three groups before having a treatment (P>0.05). So, the three groups were comparable. All the three groups had no significant difference of the neurological deficit scores between the onset time and the 7th day (P>0.05) but the 14th day (P<0.05).And there was no significant difference of the scores among the three group after the second course (P>0.05)Conclusion:Acupoint application with scalp acupuncture treatment has a similar efficacy of curing constipation with the other groups. On reducing the symptoms of constipation scores, the Treatment Group has a obvious advantage. For the treatment group, there was no significant difference of the efficacy between cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage...
