Emergency is the important embodiment of medical treatment quality in hospital. According to the current situation, western medicine takes the main position in the treatment of emergency and rescue aspect. TCM inter vention is not enough relatively, which is still at a disadvantage. Balan ce acupuncture as the promoted project of state administration of TCM, wh ich achieved good effect in the emergency treatment clinically. Acute ab dominal pain patients are very common in clinic, which should immediately receive a relief of pain and do not delay treatment condition, though th e diagnosis is hard to make. Balance acupuncture as a new treatment thera py, which has good effect in treating acute abdominal pain.ObjectiveBy taking randomized control trial and basing on the patients clinica 1 symptoms change before and after treatment, to observe the symptoms imp rovement and adverse reaction of balance acupuncture therapy in treating acute abdominal pain, objectively evaluate the immediate effect and safe ty, and provide clinical evidence for this therapy promotion.MethodsFrom February 2010 to September 2010, to select 66 acute abdominal pa in patients who meet the inclusion criteria from Guangdong Provincial Hos pital of TCM Fangcun branch emergency, and divide them randomly into two groups:33 cases in the study group treated with balance acupuncture ther apy, and 33 cases in the control group treated with 654-2.Using the VAS(v isual analogue score) as the index, to observe the effect-acting time, the duration of symptom relief and the acupuncture operating time before and 15,30,60,120 minutes after treatment. To establish the database and th en take statistical analysis with SPSS13.0. To analyze numerical variable with t test, categorical variable with chi square test and correction chi square test (or the exact probability method), ranked data with rank sum test. The test standard a is 0.05 and to take bilateral test.ResultsThe general information including gender, age, course of disease, and VAS scores before treatment of the two groups, there is no significant d ifference (P> 0.05). the baselines of the two groups are basically the sam e before treatment. To compare the scores of VAS before and every time points after the t reatment in each group. There are significant differences (p<0.05) in bot h groups. It shows that both therapies are effective in the relief of abd ominal pain. In the comparison of the treatment effect at the same observ ation time point, there is significant difference (p<0.05) between two gr oups 15 minutes after treatment. To compare the treatment effect 30 minut es after treatment, there is significant difference (p<0.05) between two groups. To compare the treatment effect 60 minutes after treatment, there is no significant difference (p>0.05) between two groups. To compare the treatment effect 120 minutes after treatment, there is significant diffe rence (p<0.05) between two groups. It shows that the treatment group is s uperior in the treatment effect of abdominal pain to the control group 15 and 30 minutes after treatment. And 60 minutes after treatment, the trea tment effect in both groups is equivalent. The control group is superior in the treatment effect to the treatment group 120 minutes after treatmen t.To compare the average effect-acting time of two groups, there is sig nificant difference (p<0.05). It shows that in the treatment of acute abd ominal pain, the treatment group acting time is faster than that of the c ontrol group. To compare the adverse reaction of two groups, there is sig nificant difference (p<0.05). It shows that the treatment group is better than the control group in safety. ConclusionCompared with the western medicine, balance acupuncture is an effecti ve method, which has short operation time, fast effect-acting time, effec tive pain relief, and good safety in the treatment of acute abdominal pai n. In term of treatment effect, western medicine maintains relatively Ion ger time than that of balance acupuncture. In the treatment of abdominal pain, both of balance acupuncture and western medicine can be complementa ry to each other in the effect-acting time and the effect maintenance tim e. It is worth popularizing in clinical use.
