Clinical Study Of Sudden Deafness Treated With Acupuncture And Acupoint Laser Therapy

Background of the studySudden Deafness is a common disease that can seriously affects quality of life. The pathogenesis of Sudden Deafness has not been clearly elucidated. The hypothesis of western medicine involved viral infection; auditive circulatory disturbance; immunological dysfunction; etc. While in the Chinese traditional medicine, sudden deafness is considered to be the result of occlusion of physical Meridian. At present, Reports of the Clinial Research confirm that acupuncture therapy and laser therapy are effective for Sudden Deafness, but there is no report of the Clinial Research about treating Sudden Deafness by therapy of combining acupuncture and acupoint laser therapy.ObjectivesThis paper discusses the best choice of clinical therapeutics in treating Sudden Deafness with acupuncture and acupoint laser therapy, and provides a synthetical comparison of curative effects between the united therapy of acupuncture and acupoint laser, the singal therapy of acupuncture and the singal therapy of acupoint laser therapy.MethodsTake a observation on the Sudden Deafness patients in ENT (ear-nose-throa t) inpatient department in Chinese medicine hospital of Guangdong Provinc e, with randomizing method, we separate 90 patients into three groups:the acupuncture group,the laser group and the synthetical group(combining ac upuncture with acupoint laser therapy). In the acupuncture group, the poin ts of Er men(SJ 21, affected side), Ting hui (GB 2, affected side), Yi fen g (SJ 17, affected side), Zhong zhu (SJ 3, both sides) and Xia xi (GB 43, both sides) are used by acupuncture needles;In the laser group, the points of Er men(SJ 21, affected side), Ting hui (GB 2, affected side) and Yi fen g (SJ 17, affected side) are used by super laser;In the synthetical grou p, combining with the above two methods. Pure tone audiometry is carried out in pre-treatment, post-treatment one course and post-treatment two cou rse. Then judge the curative effect according to the curative standard.Results1. After a course of treatment, the acupuncture group showed 2 cured cases, 10 markedly effective cases and 7 improved cases, the total effective rate reaching 65.51%; the laser group showed 1 cured case,3 markedly effective cases and 13 improved cases, the total effective rate reaching 58.62%; the synthetical group showed 5 cured cases,6 markedly effective cases and 15 improved cases, the total effective rate reaching 86.67%; there Was markedly significant difference between the synthetical group and the laser group (P<0.01); there Was no significant difference between the synthetical group and the acupuncture group (P>0.05); there Was no significant difference between the acupuncture group and the laser group (P>0.05).After two course of treatment, the acupuncture group showed 5 cured cases,9 markedly effective cases and 11 improved cases, the total effective rate reaching 86.21%; the laser group showed 4 cured cases,7 markedly effective cases and 13 improved cases, the total effective rate reaching 82.76%; the synthetical group showed 10 cured cases,11 markedly effective cases and 8 improved cases, the total effective rate reaching 96.67%; there Was significant difference between the synthetical group and the acupuncture group (P<0.05); there was markedly significant difference between the synthetical group and the laser group (P<0.01); there Was no significant difference between the acupuncture group and the laser group (P>0.05)2. Interior-group Comparison of the pure tone audiometry:there was markedly significant difference between the post-treatment one course and the pre-treatment (P<0.01); there was markedly significant difference between the post-treatment two course and the post-treatment one course (P<0.01) 3. Inter-group Comparison of the pure tone audiometry:By the end of the the first treatment course, there were no significant difference among the three groups (P>0.05);By the end of the the second treatment course, there was significant difference between the synthetical group and the acupuncture group (P<0.05);there was significant difference between the synthetical group and the laser group (P<0.05); there was no significant difference between the acupuncture group and the laser group.4. There was a significant linear correlation between improvement of hearing and year, and the correlation coefficient was r=-0.529 (P<0.01). 5. There was a significant linear correlation between improvement of hearing and the course of disease, and the correlation coefficient was r=-0.454(P<0.01).Conclusion1. Acupuncture and acupoint laser therapy are effective in in treating Sudden Deafness, and there is a synergistic effect between the two therapies.The longer the treatment course, the greater the synergistic effect.2. The year and the course of disease were negative correlation with hearing comparison.The yonger they get, the shorter of course of disease they have, patient recover hearing more.
