Objective:To observe the clinical effect of acupoint catgut embedding guided by Jin prescription in treating post-stroke shoulder-hand syndrome (1st stage), with a single-blind, randomized controlled subject design.Methods:61 cases of poststroke shoulder-hand syndrome were randomly divided into a Treatment Group (31cases) and a Control Group (30cases). Routine treatments for cerebrovascular diseases including western medicine and acupuncture were applied as primary treatment in both groups. Addtionally, the treatment group was treated by catgut embedding and the control group with sham catgut embedding every 7 days for 30 days as a course. Changes of NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), the Barthel Index of ADL, Fugl-Meyer test (upper limb), Shoulder hand syndrome score and Visual analogue scale were observed. Results:Score in NIHSS were improved in both Treatment goup and Control Group, but with no significant difference. The Barthel Index of ADL, Fugl-Meyer test (upper limb), Shoulder hand syndrome score, and Visual analogue scale showed that scores after treatment were improved in both groups, but the magnitudes were greater in the Treatment Goup. Conclusion:Catgul embedding guided by Jin acupoint prescription can effectively alleviate pain, improve motion function and reduce edema.
