| Purpose:To observe, compare and analyze the efficacy of traditional acupuncture technique and needle stimulation technique for the treatment of patients with shoulder- hand syndrome, compare the VAS, FMA etc. scores in the patients before and after treatment, investigate and analyze the effectiveness and safety of needle stimulation technique on relieving the symptoms of patients with shoulder-hand syndrome and provide a more simple, effective and economical therapy for the future.Material and method:For the study, patients were taken from the Liaoning Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation Center, Department of Neurology K3, they were divided into needle stimulation therapy group and traditional acupuncture therapy group as treatment group and control group, having 30 patients in each group. For the treatment group, 13 mutually related muscle points of shoulder were selected; needle stimulation was done without retaining the needle and was given for 3 times a week. Control group was given conventional acupuncture and selected acupoints were: Jian Yu, Jian Liao, Jian Zhen, Bi Nao, Qu Chi, Shou San Li, Wai Guan, He Gu and Ashi points, needles were retained for 30 minutes and was given for 5 times a week; 3 weeks being the one course of treatment for both therapies. After one course of treatment clinical efficacy of both treatments was observed, changes in the VAS and FMA scores before and after treatment was recorded and data was analyzed by using the statistical software. Results: 1.Before starting the treatment, the gender, age, disease condition, disease course, degree of pain, degree of upper limb mobility as well as degree of hand swelling of two groups were analyzed by statistical inference and the two groups showed no significant differences(p>0.05), i.e. two groups are comparable andcan be taken for the study. 2.The clinical curative efficiency in treatment group was 96.7% and that in control group was 86.7%, the treatment group being 10% higher than control group. 3.Comparing within the groups, there was difference in the overall measurement of treatment group and control group(p<0.05), after the treatment the pain condition, upper limb mobility as well as swelling of hands were significantly improved in both groups, showing that needle stimulation therapy and traditional acupuncture therapy both have clinical significance for the treatment of shoulder-hand syndrome. 4.After treatment VAS, FMA scores(p<0.05), indicating the therapy method of treatment group was superior than that of control group; after treatment the hand swelling index of two groups(p>0.05), without statistical significance, showed that there was no difference between two treatment methods in alleviating the hand edema. Conclusion: 1.Patients of two groups during the course of treatment, trend of improvement was; shorter the disease course, better the curative effect. 2.The clinical curative effect of needle stimulation technique was superior than that of control group in treating the shoulder-hand syndrome, had instant effect, pain symptoms of some patients were promptly relieved; while traditional needling technique requires a process of accumulation to show the effects, the initial effect is not obvious, with the increase number of treatment, the pain will gradually ease. 3.In treatment group pain value was low, patients having short disease course required shorter course of treatment, generally 3-5 times. 4.Upper limb activity level in treatment group was superior than that of control group, can improve the motor function of affected limb, this method is simple and convenient as it doesn’t require retaining needles, so can be widely used in clinical practice. 5.The two treatment methods in relieving the hand edema showed no difference, the curative effect was same. |
