A Study On Contributing Factors Of Social Anxiety In Medical College Students

Objective: to explore the contributing factors of social anxiety among undergraduates, provides basis for mental health education. Methods: By delaminating grouping method, based on a sample of 1580 were surveyed with General Self-Efficacy Scale(SGES), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ), Social Anxiety Scal(eIAS), Social Support Review Socia(lSSRS), EPQ. Results:(1)in the research, There were 370 high social anxiety subjects, accounting for 25.6% of total amount; (2)by MANOVA, Stepwise regression, the results showed: demographic variable(sgender, address , relationship of classmate)had great influence on social anxiety; (3)correlation analysis among social anxiety, Social support , coping style, personality, self-efficacy showed that social anxiety were significant positively correlated with Neuroticism, negative coping styles, while significant negative correlations were Extraversion, positive coping style, self-efficacy , total scores of social support, subjective support, degree of using support; (4)MANOVA analysis of IAS, EPQ, SCSS and SGES, showed: there were significant among high social anxiety group , low social anxiety group and middle group, except Psychoticism and objective support; (5)hierarchical regression analysis indicated that Extraversion,Neuroticism,self-efficacy, negative coping style played significantly predictive roles on social anxiety , after controlling the demographic variables;(6)the dominance analysis decomposes the total variance of a criterion variable into the predicted variance explained by predictors in terms of percentage, Extraversion, Neuroticism, SGES,passive coping style contributed to social anxiety, 46.05%, 20.86%, 23.53%, 6.39%, the main influencing factors are introversion;(7)Structural equation model of social anxiety by AMOS 5.0 showed that personality not only had direct effect on social anxiety, but also mediated by self-efficacy, negative coping styles. Conclusion: (1)25.6% percent of the subjects exhibited high social anxiety, account for quarter of total subjects; (2)demographic variables(gender, address, healthiness, degree)had great influence on social anxiety;After controlling the demographic variables, Extraversion, Neuroticism, self-efficacy, negative coping styles played significant predictive roles on social anxiety, explained 26.1% of total variance of social anxiety, he main influencing factors are introversion; (3)the level of social anxiety was significant correlated with EPQ, SSRS, SGES, SCSS; three group existed significant difference among Extraversion, Neuroticism, subject support, self-efficacy , negative coping styles; (4)Structural equation model of social anxiety by AMOS 5.0 showed that personality not only had direct effect on social anxiety, but also mediated by self-efficacy, negative coping styles; (5)Healthy personality should be developed., and high social anxiety should be intervened.
