Objectives The research is aimed to investigate the status of social anxiety, acceptance of disability and coping style among patients with breast cancer, and to explore the relationship between them and the effects of social anxiety in breast cancer patients with mastectomy,to provide a basis for proper psychological intervention. Methods The breast cancer patients with mastectomy in four hospital were investigated with general information questionnaire,Interaction Anxiety Scale(IAS),Acceptance of Disability Scale(ADS)and Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire(MCMQ).All information is analyzed in excel software by application system SPSS17.0.The data was described by Mean, standard deviation, frequency and percentage.T-test,ANOVA and Multivariate stepwise regression analysis were used for the analysis of the affecting factors to social anxiety.Pearson analysis was used for correlation analysis to explore the relationship between social anxiety, acceptance of disability and coping style. Results 1 The total score of IAS was(40.01±9.38).One-way ANOVA showed that age, education level, marital status, economic level, whether the spouse care about the appearance or not, radiotherapy and chemotherapy affected social anxiety significantly(P<0.05).2 The total score of ADS was(78.02±11.61).most of the patients with breast cancer adopted ”avoidance” and “resignation”coping style.Except in “confrontation” coping style,“avoidance” and “resignation” scores were all higher than the norm values(P<0.05).3 Significantly negative correlation was found between social anxiety and acceptance of disability(P<0.05).The score of IAS was positively correlated with “resignation” and “avoidance” coping, while negatively correlated with “confrontation”(P<0.05).Moreover,the score of ADS was positively correlated with “confrontation”coping, while negatively correlated with “avoidance” and “resignation” coping(P<0.05).4 The result of multivariate stepwise regression analysis demonstrate the main factors affecting the social anxiety of breast cancer patients with mastectomy were “resignation”,“avoidance”,age, acceptance of disability, whether the spouse care about the appearance or not, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Conclusions 1 The social anxiety was common in breast cancer patients with mastectomy. The acceptance of disability of breast cancer patients was at the moderate level. In addition to “confrontation” coping style, most of the patients with breast cancer adopted “avoidance” and “resignation”coping style.2 The breast cancer patients with mastectomy using “avoidance” and“resignation” coping styles had higher levels of social anxiety,While those who used “confrontation” coping style and high acceptance of disability had lower levels of social anxiety.
