Community Health Service (CHS) is an important act for actively reforming health delivery. In China, CHS began in 1997, after eleven years development, up to 2008 there are 28,000 CHS organizations which cover above 98% of the cities in China. With the continuous development of Community Health Service, since 2006, the development of Chinese Medicine service in CHS has become a key component for State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and other health authorities at all levels.Along with the development of Chinese Medicine service, many underlying problems emerge in the areas such as the management system, strategy, and personnel, etc. Currently, the researches related Chinese Medicine services are mostly limited to the policy and theory aspects. The practical investigation report is insufficient, in particular, the systematic research from patients' demand and CHS organization provide is a weak area with blankness. With regard to this situation, it is necessary to find solutions and strategies for solving these problems, so as to promote a healthy development of Chinese Medicine service. Based on literature review, this study started from the prospective of demand side (patients who need and utilize Chinese Medicine) and supply side (CHS who provide Chinese Medicine service), collected the data of clinic patients in some Chinese Medical hospital and CHS organizations in Guangzhou, and did the field survey on the awareness and utilization of Chinese Medicine. Finally, it got the realities of Chinese Medicine service in Guangzhou, and identified the key factors that impeded the Chinese Medicine service development. According to these findings, scientific methods were adopted to put forward to Chinese Medicine service sustainable development strategies.Object and Content of ResearchTo use the quota stratified random sampling method, this study surveyed 300 patients of three Chinese Medicine hospitals and 200 patients of the eight CHS organizations in Guangzhou through the questionnaire. The content includes the hospitalized behavioral of patients and the impact factors; the knowledge and utilization of Chinese Medicine; evaluation of Chinese Medicine service in CHS.MethodsThrough questionnaire survey and literature searches, Quantitative and qualitative methods were applied to carry out supplementary surveys. The descriptive and analysis methods, including T-test, rank test, SWOT analysis, were employed to analyze the data.Main Research FindingsI . Most patients choose large hospitals as the first choice. The main impact factor is technology of the medical institutions, followed by the distance.II. Chinese Medicine in Guangzhou has good development and obvious advantages .Generally, the citizens has a higher satisfaction with Chinese Medicine, but Chinese Medicine utilization in CHS is relatively wanting.III. The weakness of technology for community Chinese Medicine and lack of publicity is the most important cause to inadequate utilization of Chinese Medicine in CHS.IV. Immature policies and implementation not in place, as well as the division of hospitals and communities is another major reason to impact the development of CHS.V. Based on the above-mentioned research findings, from the macroscopic and microcosmic angle, sustainable development strategies were put forward as following:1 Management and Operation Strategy: to strengthen co-operation based on division of labor and implement the two-way referral to improve effective use of health resources.2 TCM Talent Strategy: to pay more attention to the development of talent team, and construct Chinese Medicine sections.3 TCM Characteristics Strategy: to Give full play to the geographical features and advantages. To exert the geographical advantage of CHS organizations, improve the function; carry out diversified TCM services based on demand-oriented. 4 Publicity strategies: to value popular science propaganda of Chinese Medicine, strengthen the populace's health education work.5 Efficient Operation Strategy: to establish an efficient operating mechanism of Chinese Medical Service for CHS and improve the validity and pertinence of Chinese Medicine community health service.
