Objective: We observe the clinical curative effect and the safe reliability of "Chai Ge Zhi Tong Ke Li " on the patients who were suffering from tension-type headache , checked the transcranial Doppler during the prior treatment and post-treatment to reveal the mechanism of drug action of it, so as to find new methods and drugs to treat it better. Methods: 60 patients, who suffer from tension-type headache, were divided into two groups at random . The treatment group which involved 30 patients had been taken "Chai Ge Zhi Tong Ke Li" for 28 days, while the control group were given amitriptyline pills . It should not add any analgesic drugs during observation. After 28 days, we observe the clinical effect , as well as the drug adverse reaction and drug side effect, evaluate the final results of treatment and analyse the correlative data by the SPSS statistics software. Results: A Comparing the treatment group to the control group we found that: 1. "Chai Ge Zhi Tong Ke Li" is safe and effective to cure tension-type headache. The clinical observations show that the total effective rate of the treatment group was 83. 33%, while the control one 80%. The difference of the total effective between both two groups was significant (p>0.05) , which suggested both drugs show similar efficacy in treatment of tention-type headache; 2. The headache index and total integral of TCM of both groups were better in prior treatment and post-treatment (p<0. 01, p<0.05) , while the diffenerce of headache index between two groups was not significant(p>0.05), which meant the effect of "Chai Ge Zhi Tong Ke Li" in relieving headache and reducing the time of headache was comparable to amitriptyline. In the respects of total integral of TCM and the efficacy of TCM syndrome, the treatment group was superior to the control one (p<0. 05) , which reflecting Chinese traditional treatment of tention-type headache's traditional strengths; 3.The possible mechanism of "Chai Ge Zhi Tong Ke Li" treating this disease was to improve the function of vascular smooth muscle to increasethe cerebral blood circulation and make a good mood to reduce the adversepsychological factors to stimulate to recover. 4. "Chai Ge Zhi Tong Ke Li"has not found drug adverse reaction and drug side effect, so it has bettersafe relicibility .Conclusion: "Chai Ge Zhi Tong Ke Li" suggested equivalent clinical effectto amitriptyline with little drug adverse reaction during the treatment andwas easy to take, so it was much better to prevent and treat tention-typeheadache.
