Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of Fo Shou Ding Tong Decoction(FSDTD) to tension-type headache(TTH).Methods 70 cases of TTH patients collected from Gansu Province C hinese Medicine Hospital, Department of Encephalopathy from August 2013 to June 2014. The patients were divided into observation group(n=35) and control group(n=35). Two groups received basic treatment, and the control group was given Tou Tong N ing(TTN) instead of FSDTD. Prognosis, safety and prostecdtive efficacy of two groups after 2 weeks therapeutic course were evaluated by traditional C hinese medicine(TCM) symptoms of measurements, Headache index and Headache Impact Test(HIT-6). Routine blood, urine, liver, heart, renal, digestive system function, and adverse drug reaction in FSDTD and TTN treatment were regarded as safety assessment index. Results Because of 4 patients quit therapy, totally 66 patients got this clinical trial(observation group(n=33) and control group(n=33)).(1) TCM symptoms of measurements showed the effec tive rate in observation group was 90.91%, higher than 75.77% in control group(P<0.05).(2) Headache index in treatment group was more obvious than control group, and the difference was significant(P<0.05).(3) Compared with before treatment, significant difference was detected in HIT-6 between 2 groups, and observation group was better(P<0.05).(4) Stability and curative effect evaluation: TCM symptoms of measurements, Headache index and HIT-6 were analyzed separately at the first and third months after drug withdraw. Observation group showed better improvement than control(P<0.05).But only in the Headache index score we cannot sure the treatment group is better than control one on long-term therapeutic effect because that the difference between two gro ups were not significant on statistically.(5) Safety assessment: compare with before treatment, there is no obvious change identified after treatment in routine blood, urine, liver, heart, renal, digestive system function, and adverse drug reaction, which indicated the FSDTD is safe in use. Conclusion The FSDTD therapy was effective on patients with identical TTH, showed steady prostecdtive efficacy without significant side effects. The therapy benefit TTH patients from pain intensity, attack frequency and effects to normal life.
