A Retrospective And Prospective, Multi-centre Observational Study To Evaluate Current Treatment Situation Of Major Depression In China, The Views From Patients And Doctors On Knowledge Of Depression And Associated Treatment Issues.

Objective:Depression is one of the most common mental disorder.Drug therapy is the foundation of the treatment.The newer drugs,such as SSRIs have taken the place of the older ones,such as TCAs to become the first choice in drug therapy.This study will evaluate the situation of the use of antidepressant in the country,knowledge of depression and the satisfaction degree of depression patient with self-designed questionnaire.We hope the result will do some help to improve the treatment.Methods:It is a retrospective and prospective,multi-centre observational study.The investigation is conducted in six cities,twelve hospitals in China with self-designed questionnaire.The investigation objects contains three parts:the doctors working in the hospitals above,the depression patients according to the CCMD-3(group A) and some of the group A patients whom is newly diagnosed or treated(group B).Group B is treated with paroxetine for 4-8 weeks and then will be investigated again.Results:Ninety six doctor cases,five hundred and thirty two group A patient cases and one hundred and eight group B patient cases were collected to take statistics and analysis.The questionnaire results show that the most widely used antidepressants are paroxetine,fluoxetine and venlafaxine.The older TCAs medicine use rate is less the one percent.Doctors always take effect as the first concern while choosing drugs.The syndromes doctors most dealing with are depressed and anxious syndromes.Patients are quite satisfactory with the treatment due to the release of syndromes,the less break time,the increase of confidence,the improvement in compliance.Conclusion:SSRIs has become the most widely used antidepressant and the first choice of drug therapy in the country.There are still some misunderstandings of patients in many parts of depression.Much more education are needed from doctors to patients.Patients are quite satisfactory with the treatment nowadays.
