Hypernatremia was a common complication of severe head injury. Hypernatremia present at patients with severe head injury was associated with a higher mortality rate. Plasma sodim had become an important index of outcome of patients with severe head injury in clinical. combating hypernatremia was a difficulties in the treatment of patients with severe head injury. Hypernatremia after sevre head injury due to the non-neurogenic facter an the neurogenic facter associated with the primary disease. The present study indicated that the neurogenic hypernatremia was associated with the kidney failing to excrate sodium due to the the hypothalamic-pituitary gland-adrenal cortex system overexcitement caused by Neurotransmitters Secretion disordering and inflammation factor as well as the Nonequilibrium between atrial natriuretic peptide and renin - blood vessel tense element - aldosterone system after head injury.Severe hypernatremia impacted cell's normal function by changing Intracellular volume and the activity of ion channel, interferencing its normal Electrophysiologic activity and the Intracellular substance metabolism, and damage organ. Many clinical practice poved that fluid replacement through nasogastric feeding and venous channel could treat hypernatremia effectively as well as continuous blood purifying. But there was any shortage in these treatmnet. This review article is aim to present the recent achievement of attack rate, mortality rate, outcome, pathogenesis, Body impact and treatment of severe head injury compliticating hypernatremia.
