Objective: Cerebral Infarction is one of important diseases with high morbidity rate, high mortality rate, high disable rate and high recurrent rate. medical staff are paying close attention to prognosis of cerebral infarction. It is important to identify those patients at high risk for stroke recurrence. The purpose of this study was to observe recurrence of ischemic stroke patients by following up within a year after the first-ever stroke and identify risk factors of recurrent cerebral infarction. Methods: This paper gathered the clinical data of the first-ever cerebral infarction patients in Department of Neurology, the No 1 affiliated hospital, DaLian Medical University from October 1 2005 to October 1 2006. All cases were diagnosed according to cerebrovascular diagnostic criteria revised by Chinese Medical Association Fourth National Conference on cerebrovascular diseases and identified by CT /MRI scan. The main research factors : TC,TG,HDL,LDL,LP(a),FIB,WBC,PLT. History of past illness and general states were recorded together in this paper. The cases were followed up in a year since the first event. The recurrent ischemic strokes were memorized. For the statistical analyses, Kaplan-Meier methods were used for drawing recurrent curve, and Log-rank test was used for the comparison of recurrence. Logistic regression model were used to calculate which factors contributed to recurrence.Results:1. 441 patients were found to have had a first-ever cerebral infarction during the study period. 427 patients were followed up. The rate of following up was 96.8%. There are 6 patients were died from other reasons. At last 421 patients were in this study. Cases of these 421 patients, 58 cases were recurrent after a year following-up. The recurrent rate was 13.8%.2. Logistic regression model disclose:The main stroke recurrence factors with statistical significance include: age(P=0.002, OR=1.044, 95%CI=1.015-1.073), hypertension history(P=0.040, OR=1.944, 95%CI= 1.032-3.663), FIB(P=0.000, OR=1.932, 95%CI=1.386-2.666).Conclusions: Cerebral infarction is one disease with determinate recurrent rate. Age, hypertension history and fibrinogen are risk factors of recurrent cerebral infarction. Sex,smoking history, drinking history, diabetes history, heart disease history, atrial fibrillation history, transient ischemic attacks history, peripheral angiopathy history and apoplexia family history may not be related to recurrent cerebral infarction.
